Kelly Slater (USA) made surf industry headlines earlier this year when he split with longtime sponsor Quiksilver. Now, he's doing it again with the much-anticipated official announcement of his new clothing collaboration.

Slater signed with Quiksilver in 1990 at the age of 18, just before winning the US$100,000 Body Glove Surfbout at Lower Trestles. Now, in his first competition at the same spot that effectively launched his pro surfing career, the 11-time World Champion shared his next professional endeavor with the world.

"It's been a long time coming and I'm proud to let you know that the clothing brand I've been working on has launched our 'Handshake Website' at Outerknown.com this morning," Slater said via the the company's Instagram page.

Outerknown.com -- a name the brand's website says "references the furthest reaches of our knowledge today" -- focuses on the intersection of style and sustainability, which Slater reiterated.

"Our team, led by designer John Moore and supported by our strategic partner, The Kering Group, are tirelessly working on a brand that blends the relationship between style, sustainability, and travel." Slater said. "I believe we have an obligation to build better products and understand the way our consumption impacts the world around us."

Slater split from Quiksilver in March to collaborate with global fashion giant The Kering Group and California designer John Moore on his new project. The official launch is still forthcoming but Outerknown's first line of products is scheduled to premier Fall 2015.

In the meantime, the company is keeping a daily feed on Instagram at @Outerknown.
