Thanks to @tracksmag @colbeycheese for the short clip on their website. Love the footage of dad styling at the start but he makes me look pretty silly grovelling away! Good memories from a bonza month camping, driving, hiking and paddling the east coast earlier this year! The link to the clip is in my bio. #cowabunga
If ur in Streaky tomorrow head down to Bay Funktion to get a funky screen printed tee and support a great cause. Stewart @freethereef is travelling around Oz raising awareness on the situation facing the Great Barrier Reef in particular but also local issues including BP's persistence in drilling for oil in the Great Australian Bight. I had a chat with Stewart this arvo and it was enlightening, scary, informative and inspiring all at the same time. I believe that #BP chose the bight as an ideal place to drill for oil because of the lack of human's living here and hoping we would not have a loud enough voice. If it went ahead and, god forbid, a spill did take place, it would affect coastlines stretching from NSW all the way along the bottom of oz and up WA's coastline as far as Broome. And that is based off a spill 1/10th the size of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill BP were responsible for. So get pissed off people, they trying to shit on all our coasts!
Honoured to land on the cover of this month's @tracksmag Huge thanks to @benbugdenphoto for kicking non stop against a raging Winston sweep for hours and @colbeycheese for his relentless concentration on wet country roads and on the beach. This was a super memorable session where I was a bit freaked by the wave we'd come to surf but after a few toobs I fell in love with the joint and was feeling pretty good and confident in myself. One hour later I tried to surf another Bomby just around the corner, bobbed in the line up for an hour, completely lost and losing confidence fast. Then got Winston's biggest swells on the head, washed all the way in I dragged myself back out the back. Another hour and I caught one, only to straighten out and get steamrolled by the whitewater, copping my board to groin and snout! The ocean is always boss, don't forget it!
Congrats to Michael and Abbey on their beautiful wedding on Easter Saturday. It was a perfect day and evening followed by another Easter Sunday turning it on. Can't wait to marry this gorgeous girl next year and bring a child into the world with you in August!
4 corkers heading west very soon.. From left @samuelboord 9'6", my 9'6", @gene__genie 9'6", my 10'0".The shapes look sleek and refined and the artwork is stunning. I am one lucky man being able to ride @dmshapes creations. You're a genius mate!! Thank you so much!!!!
It is always a pleasure staying and surfing around Newcastle. The local crew there are a friendly, hospitable bunch. This was taken just down the road in a picturesque little bay that provided a fun rip bowl and a chance to take in the rainforest scenery that the area is surrounded by. Cheers for the and great to see you @boskophoto
Well it's been a delayed departure but I'm pretty sure that is the end of the run for my relationship with the WQS. It's been a fun ride on this roller coaster tour! I can guarantee the next time the surf is 1 ft and mushy I'll be on a fish or Malibu. And when it's pumping probably a single fin.. Time to forget about grovelling and relax into family life far away from the 'grind' with my beautiful fianc @elizabox_ And I have to thank my amazing parents for so much love, advice and continual support throughout this whole journey!
If I get enough votes on viewers choice for @bigwaveawards I'm gonna hook Mum and Dad up with the trip for 2 to indo! Get on and have a vote, they deserve it! Or if ya froffin on the other lads rides give them a vote and maybe they'll hook their folks up too?! Plus you get the chance to be rolling around in a bunch of prizes happy as a pig in The link to vote is in my bio, cheers
The emotions @mfanno has gone through this year must be incredible! He also held together an incredible campaign! One of, if not the best surfer in the world but more importantly, a world champion bloke!
Another favourite on @tracksmag board test, @dmshapes actor model, when it comes to high performance shortboards, for me, these boards are the pinnacle. Slightly flatter rocker gives you that little extra glide yet still feels at home jamming in the pocket or carving through the flatter sections! cheers to @dakineaustralia @xcelwetsuits for the opportunity to travel and @lincolnsurf for the support. @colbeycheese
Just wrapped up the @tracksmag board test! Scored a boat load of fun waves and uncovered some gems of boards. This was one of my favourites! @outerislandsurfboards sleek, speedy, flex tail. One of the fastest boards I've ever ridden and beautiful on rail! frame grab @colbeycheese
Really excited to be traveling to the Mentawais Islands in a few weeks for @tracksmag board test. This photo is from my last Indo trip 2 1/2 years ago. After 6 years of relentless travel I have been hermitting pretty hard the last 2 years. Thanks to @dakineaustralia for gifting me with a tropical adventure in the middle of a winter full of frosty mornings and gale force onshores. #blessed #grommetfroth
Way back in 2007 I was lucky enough to surf in the Miyazaki OceanDome on a ASL Hot100 trip to Japan. It was mountains of fun and I think we were the last surfers to enjoy it before it shut down due to expensive running costs. @andrewshield
Swinging ya gun around, head down, bum up, arms paddling like a windmill in a gale. Peering over the edge, jump to ya feet and start gliding down the seemingly endless face! Best feeling in surfing! @sa_rips
This photo is from an adventure to mainland Mexico in 2012. I had 3 months playtime with some good friends based in Puerto Escondido. It was sublime. This was a few day mission to Salina Cruz with Josh Mulcoy and @patricktrefz The waves were filthily fun and I was introduced to the Widow maker fin set up (big back fin, 2 smaller side fins) which I'm riding in this by @patricktrefz Widow makers are also filthily fun!! #happydays
I'm thoroughly enjoying @greenteax50 range of healthy energy drinks and protein shakes! They are providing a great healthy alternative to your heavily sugared energy drink and it comes loaded with green tea antioxidants! Cheerio Legends!!
Frame grab from @mud_waters filming for @spiritofakasha at an east coast backwater close to the mayhem but just far enough away.. I'm riding a 5'8" single fin shaped by my brother Sage, and based on a 1970 personal shape by Dad called the PJ special.. Long lines and tight lines, that board loves it all! #vallasurfboards
This year the australian open was all about the green room! but seriously thanks for the support legends, was nice to get through some rounds and feel the buzz of winning heats again.. Good luck to @stueykennedy and @ryancallinan Smash it up boys!! Bring on Newcastle!
Enjoying my east coast vacation and especially enjoying progressing through the rounds of the #australianopen Great to see the waves and weather coming to the party and every other man and their chihuahua!
One of the best days of surf on one of the best sand banks on one of the best stretches of coastline with only the best crew around to share it with! @andrewshield @dmshapes #surfstoned #rasheseverywhere
Put a contest rashie on for the first time in a while for the #scootburleighpro yesterday. Felt good to get a heat win and catch up with plenty of salty dogs. Always good to surf burleigh with 3 others even if it is in a stiff north easterly breeze.
The west coast of SA is insanely beautiful and it's oceans full of treasures. I have recently become aware of BP's plans to drill for gas/oil in the bight and off our coastlines. This deeply concerns me, the ocean and stunning coastline is by far the best asset of the west coast and the chance of it being littered with oil rigs would destroy that beauty. The extra traffic would pollute our waters and if there ever was a spill our fisheries destroyed and pristine waters polluted! Residents can go online to fill out a survey and inform BP of what you believe in. Even if you are not a resident get on there and tell them why you love it! http://www.adelaide.edu.au/churp/research/current/gab-bp/ #keepitnatural #fuckoffbp #norigsinthebight
RIP Ricardo Dos Santos. Such an insane tragedy for the surfing world to lose one of the nicest and hard charging humans I ever had the chance to meet. I feel privelaged to have had shared a room with you the last time I stayed in the billabong house at OTW. I'll never forget your huge smile, classic sense of humour and of course the way you charged waves if consequence will never be forgotten!
Just finished two weeks of prawn fishing. It wasn't so bad, oodles of fresh seafood, sensational sunrises and sunsets and saltwater baths daily. Got 3 and a half months off now and have one very different saltwater bath on my mind.. #venusbayprawns
