Happy Mothers Day Mum Thank you for everything you've done for me, and continue to do for me...we may have our differences, but I know you've only ever got my best interest at heart and I am so lucky to have you. You are the most amazing, beautiful, caring, thoughtful, loving mum.Happy Mothers Day to every mum out there, and also those who are no longer with us. Please know that I love you so much more than words could ever explain mum
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around...use your smile to change the world, don't let the world change your smile. Happy Valentines Day
Unfortunately I couldn't find rhythm in my heat today & have been eliminated from the #tweedcoastpro...but I am really enjoying my time back in the water! Thank you to everyone who has shown their support & also those who came to the beach to watch me surf today.Photo by @michaelhayes__
A few things have changed since my last health update...After several more bleeds, hospital visits and further investigation; I was told I would require major surgery.Surgery was the last resort, but in the end it needed to be done.Last week I spent 3 hours in theatre, where the surgeons removed 20cms of my small bowel and also reversed my ileostomy.Instead of using clamps, my surgeon decided it was best to hand stitch my bowel back together to avoid further problems. The surgery went well and I am now back at home continuing my recovery. I am unable to do much for the next 6-8 weeks and although it will take some time for my body to adjust to what it's just been through, I am hopeful that I am now on the road to recovery.#Crohns #Colitis #IBD #IntoTheOpen
3.10.15Celebrating World Ostomy Day!World Ostomy Day is dedicated to raising awareness about ostomies. It's not normally something people would openly talk about as there is so much stigma about having a bag, but let me tell you that it is nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about.Let's face it, everybody poops Yes it is a little different, but hey we are all different in our own ways.Having an ostomy doesn't mean you have to live with limitations, it does not make you weird, weak, gross, ugly, unsexy, or any less of a person...if anything it gives you a deeper appreciation for everything around you, makes you stronger, more unique and more valuable. Having a bag can be easy to hide, they have no odour until being emptied, they can be easily hidden under clothes, they really do become part of a routine just like brushing your teeth, and to be honest there are a lot more people out there living with ostomies than you may realise. Yes sometimes they can make funny noises a
Happy Fathers Day to the most amazing dad that anyone could ever wish for! Thank you for being the loving, caring, fun, thoughtful, generous, amazing dad that you are..I wouldn't want it any other way, you are the best. Please know that I love you & I always will
I've been known to overthink things as it is...but having so much time to think lately has had me lost in my own thoughts Some of you may have noticed that I've been a bit quiet on social media lately...so here's an update. I am coping well with my ileostomy, it's actually been the least of my worries these last few months. To cut a long story short, it was revealed that I also have Crohn's in my small bowel. After a month long hospital visit & lots of treatment, I got some positive news!An investigation 2wks ago showed that my large bowel is relatively good & my small bowel has some stricturing, but the ulceration has showed signs of healing/improvement.I am still continuing treatment at home & hoping for a positive outcome after a follow up investigation in 6-8wks.Let's just say I'm looking forward to getting back to enjoying my life, though in saying that I am thankful to be here.See you in the water soon #IntoTheOpen #Crohns #Colitis #IBD
Reflecting back on adventures from the Crohn's & Colitis Australia Youth Camp just over a week ago! These kids are all going through an invisible battle, a battle that nobody deserves to go through. I was so inspired by every single one of you and am so proud of you all for how you handle yourselves and approach life, and when you are going through those tough times just remember that you all now have each other. I'm glad you all had the chance to meet each other, make new friendships with others who understand, and know that you do have the support of each other. I'm also grateful to have had the pleasure of meeting you, speaking with you, and spending a few days adventuring with you! #IntoTheOpen #Crohns #Colitis #IBD Photo by Kylie Lyons, Handprint Photography.
Happy Mother's Day Mum I could start writing about how amazing you are but I wouldn't know where to stop, so I'll just say this...Thank you for everything you've done & still continue to do for me, you are one of a kind & the most amazing mum one could ever wish for & I'm thankful to call you my mum. We've been through so much as a family, but I believe it has only made us better people & we've become even closer & stronger than before. I'm sorry for all I've put you through & I know that we sometimes have our disagreements, though please always know that I love you mum & always will.Thank you for being you & for loving me unconditionally the way you do
The balloon in this photo is more than it seems, it's been with me for the last 3 weeks & hasn't deflated...it's the first thing I see as I wake every morning, always starting my day with a smile It's been 3 weeks since surgery & I'm adjusting well with my latest accessory.I do have my moments but I'm starting to feel much brighter within myself. At the moment I still have to take things slow & steady, but I'll be back enjoying the things I love in no time!#IntoTheOpen #Crohns #Colitis #IBD #Ileostomy #Ostomy #GetYourBellyOut
Thank you to everyone who has sent me messages of support & kind words, it really does mean a lot.I didn't expect the amount of feedback I had on my last post on Facebook, though I'm glad it has reached so many people! I thank everyone who shared my post & has helped raise more of an awareness about Crohn's/Colitis & IBD in general.I haven't been able to respond to all the comments on my previous post but to those who are currently dealing with obstacles or surgery, I send you my best wishes & determination to battle through those tough times...it may not seem like it right now, but eventually there is a positive light at the end of the tunnel. In saying that, I have now had the surgery & everything went well.I am now recovering but am looking forward to getting myself into peak condition & can't wait to get back in the water!#IntoTheOpen #Crohns #Colitis #IBD
Unfortunately my stay in Manly has been short...but not so sweet.Being knocked in the last 30 seconds doesn't feel good...but it came down to bad judgement & human error, which I only have myself to blame for.Goodbye Manly!Photo by @michaelhayes__
