Kelly Slater again dominated the opening day of the Quiksilver Pro at Snapper Rocks in Queensland Australia. The event champion and current world champion caught this wave in his round one and negotiated a big barrel ride successfully to post the days highest wave score of a 9.87 and finished the heat with the highest heat score of the day with 18.80 in his demolition of emerging young surfers Garrett Parkes (Austalia) and Kolohe Andino (USA). "30 seconds before our heat started I saw a really good one behind the rock," Slater said. "So my plan was to wait for the deep ones. If you watch the heats and see who won and how they won, it's all about wave quality. The waves are fun when you get them, you just have to catch the second wave of the set because the first waves comes through and cleans it all up." ASP/ Kirstin
