About Morgan Cibilic

Spending his time growing up between the surfing hubs of Angourie and Merewether it is no surprise that the natural footer has a smooth, powerful style, groomed on those two famous right hand points. Yet Cibilic has always flown relatively under the radar and he failed to land any significant results as a junior.

Quiet, but self-assured, he nonetheless hit the QS full-time in 2018 finishing just outside the top 100. That’s why his qualification the next year was the season’s biggest surprise. He jumped 100 spots in 12 months after a solid European leg was backed by some incredible performances in Hawaii.

However, if that year was a surprise, then his rookie year on the CT was a revelation. A third at Newcastle may have been put down to local knowledge or rookie’s luck, but a Quarterfinal finish at Narrabeen and a Final at Rottnest proved that surfing may have had a new superstar. By the end of the 2021 season, he made the top five and the WSL Finals at Trestles, sealing one of the best first seasons in the history of the sport.
