Day 4 whittled the field down to just eight at the Men's QS10,000 in Portugal, the Allianz Billabong Pro Cascais.
The Allianz Billabong Pro Cascais is on standby. Event officials have called a lay day on Friday and Saturday due to minimal surf available at both the primary venue of Carcavelos and backup site of Guincho.
"After taking a look at conditions this morning and the forecast, we've deciding to call it OFF for the day and tomorrow," Dave Shipley, WSL Head Judge said. "We're looking at a new bump in swell on Sunday and more challenging conditions for the athletes. We should have some nice conditions for the finals and will reassess at 8AM on Sunday."
Stop No.2 of 3 in the Portuguese Waves Series - Cascais Trophy, the Allianz Billabong Pro Cascais will see a dramatic shuffle of the rankings with the early elimination of current leader Jack Freestone (AUS), 23. Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour surfers Kolohe Andino (USA) and Wigolly Dantas (BRA) are still in contention in Cascais and are looking at capitalizing when the event resumes before their final chance at the Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal.
With a lull in action at Guincho, surfers and fans will get a chance to enjoy a full day of action sports shows at the Moche Impact Zone on the primary venue of Carcavelos.
Event officials and surfers will reassess conditions at 8 a.m. on Sunday at Guincho.
First in the water when the event resumes will be Kolohe Andino up against Vasco Ribeiro.
