With only one day remaining until the opening event of the 2016 Subway Series Pro Junior on the Gold Coast, competitors prepare themselves for what is sure to be a hotly contested competitive season.

After taking out the Maxum Pro Junior in 2015, Kobie Enright will no doubt be a competitor to watch throughout the series, especially at event number one at her home on the Gold Coast.

"I can't wait to have a few events around home," Enright said. "After a few weeks away it will be nice to surf a comp and be sleeping in my own bed and feeling comfortable at home."

Enright, along with her fellow competitors, is excited at the opportunity to surf a number of pro level events back-to-back, and is very aware of the importance of staying consistent during a series such as this.

"I'm super excited that there's more events all over the country, it helps us all get experience. I'm hoping to do well in them and build my way up into getting into bigger comps."

"I think it's really important to get a good result at the first event and start the year off on the front foot and set your self up for the rest of the season.

Number three seed in the men's Harley Ross-Webster is also stoked with the introduction of new Pro Junior events to the Australasia schedule.

"The Subway series is so good for junior surfers in Australasia," Ross Webster said. "Having a number of contests in a row is great for growing as a competitor and it's also awesome meeting competitors from other states and making new friends.

After a strong performance at the Carve Pro QS1000 in Maroubra over the weekend, Ross-Webster is feeling confident heading into the Gold Coast junior event.

"I have been doing a few QS's to prepare and doing a lot of work in the gym with Matt Bemrose and Matt Grainger so I feel really ready. I can't wait for the first contest to kick off and see how I go."

The WSL sanctioned Subway® Pro Junior events, which includes 18 and under men's and women's divisions, form part of the 2016 WSL Australasian Junior Qualifying Series (JQS), providing the winning athletes with an opportunity to win a coveted world title, at the WSL World Junior Championships in early 2017.

The Subway Series Pro Junior Gold Coast runs from January 19-20. For all of the up to date results and information visit www.worldsurfleague.com or on the WSL App.
