Owen Wright Is Closing in on Jeep Leader John John Florence

The big man won a crucial Round Four heat over Julian Wilson and Kanoa Igarashi thanks to a huge 9.73. The win earned him a jump directly into the Quarterfinals of the Oi Rio Pro, and has helped him close the gap with Jeep Leader John John Florence.

Wright is now awaiting the winner of the Round Five match between Kanoa Igarashi and Matt Wilkinson to see if he can overtake Florence in Rio. Should he win his Quarterfinal match, he'll overtake Florence on points. However, when it comes to Wright's quest for the Jeep Leader Jersey, there's still the specter of Jordy Smith, who's doing well in Rio, albeit with a tough Round Five match ahead.

Smith and Wright are currently tied on the Jeep Leaderboard, and should they both manage to keep their winning ways in Rio, they will meet in the Semifinals, where the winner would claim the Jeep Leader jersey and a trip to the Finals.
