Just minutes into Round One, Heat 1 at the Puerto Escondido Challenge, young Hawaii native Nathan Florence found a lined-up right off the north sandbar. Florence, World Champ John John Florence's younger brother, pulled in and double-pumped through a deep, dark barrel but was unable to sneak out as the wave's end section collapsed. Florence took third place in the heat and advanced to the Semifinals.
