Jordy Smith and Bede Durbidge set the tone for the final day of competition, Durbidge taking an unexpected victory over Smith in their closely fought quarterfinal battle.
Bede Durbidge continued his fiery form advancing into the semifinals.
Smith placed equal fifth overall, a vast improvement on his 25th place on the Gold Coast.

Gabriel Medina met his match in Josh Kerr during the quarterfinals and was eliminated in equal fifth place.
Josh Kerr employed his air-game to eliminate the Brasilian surfer and advance into the semifinals.
Kelly Slater looked unstoppable against Joel Parkinson in the quarterfinals.
With plenty of variety in his performance, Kelly Slater gave the judges the show they were looking for eliminating Joel Parkinson from the event.
Despite an impressive performance from Joel Parkinson, the Australian was narrowly eliminated by Kelly Slater during the quarterfinals.
Michel Bourez disposed of Nat Young in the final quarterfinal of the day.
Josh Kerr put on a show against Bede Durbidge in the semifinals, posting an excellent ride to earn his place into the Finals.
Bede Durbidge failed to find his form in semifinals and was eliminated with an equal third place finish.
Durbidge struggles to hide his dissapointment.
Michel Bourez continued his dominance taking down 11X ASP World Champion Kelly Slater in the Semifinals with a near perfect 9.37 ride.
Kelly Slater made a tactical error in the Semifinals and despite holding the lead for the majority of the heat, allowed Michel Bourez to sneak a wave from under his priority allowing him the score and ultimately the win.
Michel Bourez lit up Main Break scoring 6.33, 7.57 and finally an 8.33 to secure his victory over Kerr with his patented forehand power in the Final.
Josh Kerr placed runner-up for the second consecutive year.
