The Cabreiroá Pro Las Americas returns from February 3-9, 2020 in Tenerife, Canary Islands. Find out all you need to know about this event below!
The European Qualifying Series returns to Tenerife for Stop No. 2 at the Cabreiroá Pro Las Americas from February 3-9, 2020.
What?
Once again it's the second stop on the World Surf League (WSL) European Qualifying Series (QS) and it offers 1,500 ranking points to the men and women's winners of the event. Though it's a recent addition to the regional QS, this event is quickly becoming a favorite among surfers as Las Americas offers pristine conditions and an enjoyable sunny break from the continental winter just a couple of hours flying away from the region's main surf breaks.
The season is just getting underway with the first Qualifying Series event completed in China and as European and international surfers prepare for more jersey time in Morocco and Hawaii, plenty of ranking points are up-for-grabs early in the season.
Where?
The Canary Islands is an archipelago of seven main islands sitting roughly 100km out West of the Moroccan coastline in the Atlantic Ocean. A volcanic paradise for surfers who flock there during the European winter to find warmer waters and powerful reef break waves to train during the off season.
The wave at Las Americas is mainly a left, which can offer a long wall in relatively shallow waters, perfect for progressive surfing. On smaller days, the short right will provide ramps to go above the lip and score big, but the inside is a mine field of sorts with rocks popping up everywhere.
When?
Tune in from February 3-9, 2020 for the LIVE Webcast and check out all the photos, videos and updates right here!
In the meantime, check out a selection of last year's best imagery from Las Americas!
