When you're the biggest surf star in Italy you go to fashion shows, it's just what you do. The ever-inspirational Leonardo Fioravanti was just posted up in Milan for the Gucci fashion show,. His epic '70s ensemble is a look we think he should definitely rock on tour in 2020.
The annual affair in Milan debuted Gucci's spring/summer 2020 line, created by Italian designer Alessandro Michele. Along with Fioravanti, notables styled for the affair included K Pop bands SuperM and EXO, recording artist Yves Tumor and actor Kelvin Harrison, Jr.
Last we saw Fioravanti he was snowboarding at the Cervinia ski resort in Italy "on the sunny side of the Matterhorn."
That Leo, he's so hot right now!
With a couple months to go before the start of the 2020 Championship Tour season, Fioravanti finds himself in a unique situation. For the first three events of the season he will be competing with Mikey Wright for a full-time position on the CT.
Both surfers were injured during the 2019 season and have valid cases for the injury replacement wildcard. With only two wildcards available, the first one went to World Champion Adriano de Souza, who spent much of last season struggling with a knee injury.
Settling on a "surf off" format, Fioravanti and Wright will both compete in the first three events of the 2020 CT. Whoever is ahead in the ratings will continue on Tour for the rest of the season.
Fioravanti returned to competition in time for the Quiksilver Pro France, where he heroically finished 3rd. And Wright is reportedly back in the water and has begun preparing for his 2020 campaign.
As the first Italian to qualify for the CT, Leo walks us through his travels, setbacks, and aspirations as one of the world's best surfers.
