The sandbar was perfectly groomed. The swell was there. The surf stars were in town. Everything was set for an epic start to the 2020 Championship Tour until the coronavirus pandemic irrevocably changed our world.
The CT season may have been postponed, but with surfing still a permitted activity on the Goldie, the best surfers on the planet took full advantage of the idyllic Australian conditions.
World champ Mick Fanning demonstrated to the world that he was, in fact, back from the knee injury he'd suffered six months prior. While CT stars like Griffin Colapinto, Jack Freestone and Mikey Wright all got in on the action as well.
Red Bull Surfing just dropped a new edit featuring all of the highlights from the memorable run of swell. And while it's obviously a huge a bummer the contest wasn't able to run, it's good to see the surf was well enjoyed by everybody that was in Coolangatta for this special moment in time.
