Can We All Just Pause To Marvel At The First Wave In JJF's Innersection Part?
The Inertia
Story by The Inertia.
Before John John Florence had two world titles under his belt, before he was regarded as the best surfer in the world, and before he made movies of the year, John John Florence was just a kid from the North Shore. Granted, he was a kid that everyone expected to win world titles, become the best surfer in the world, and make movies of the year, but he was still just a little kid.
A little kid who surfed Pipeline and Sunset like someone 20 years his senior, but still just a little kid. You get the idea. John John Florence has been either the kid who was going to become the best or the man who is the best. Of course, "best" is relative and "best" is an opinion not shared by EVERYONE, but we'd be willing to bet that the majority would lean that way.
But in between being that little kid and being that world champ, John John Florence was in Taylor Steele's Innersection. He was the opening part, in fact, which, looking back, makes perfect sense. And while the whole section is good and Matt Meola would go on to win (well-deservedly), John John Florence's first wave in his section, a third reef Pipeline bomb, is well worth a rewatch.
