2020 CT AND QS CANCELED

Big news today as the WSL has officially cancelled the remainder of the 2020 Championship Tour and Qualifying Series events due to Covid-19.

This announcement marks the first time in over 40 years that a World Champion will not be crowned. 2020 will forever have an asterisks next to it when it comes to global sports and professional surfing, but there are some seriously interesting changes ahead ...

THE WSL FINALS

The most talked about change is that the World Title will now be decided in a single-day event called, "The WSL Finals". At the end of the season, the Finals will feature the top five men and women in a new format all going down on a single day of pumping surf. In 2019 we saw the Title race come down to the last heat of the year with Italo and Gabe at Pipeline …so bring on the drama!

2021 SCHEDULE UPDATE

There are also some big changes coming to the CT schedule … With an equal number of events for men and women, the 2021 Season will now begin in Hawaii and end in Tahiti, before going to the Finals. We're going to give G-Land another try next June. But even bigger, the women will be heading back to Teahupo'o for the first time since 2006. Also new, with a restructuring of the Challenger and Qualifying Series, surfers will now be able to qualify for the CT in the same calendar year.

THE WSL COUNTDOWN

And that's not all folks … You will still be able to see some of your favorite surfers in action this year in a series of pre-season national events called The WSL Countdown. We're talking comps in California, Australia and Europe that will carry us from August through October … First up? The Rumble at the Ranch in Lemoore. So buckle up people, this is going to be one hell of a ride.
