With unruly conditions at Cloudbreak, competition moved to Restaurants.
Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) would not be ousted in the early rounds again: her Round 3 performance gave her the direct advance to Round 5.
Bianca Buitendag (ZAF) was a threatening opponent, scoring an 8.87 late in the heat.
Wildcard entry Tatiana Weston-Webb (HAW) struggled to keep pace with Buitendag and Gilmore on the bumpy surface of the Restaurants break.
Buitendag's heat score came within a hundredth of a point of winning, but ultimately she was relegated to Round 4.
Gilmore winning kept a slight edge over Buitendag, posting two excellent scores on back-to-back waves.
