After winning the impromptu Billabong International Junior Showdown, 13-year-old John John Florence accepts a surfboard from 3x ASP World Champion Andy Irons.
The then up-and-coming Hawaiian surfing prodigy had just topped Surfer Magazine’s Hottest 100 Groms of 2006. He was in J-Bay with his family shooting a documentary about their their lives with iconic cinematographer Sonny Miller.
As for the board that Florence won that day? It was a custom Billabong design by Graham Smith, father to Jordy, and who's also known as Gee.
