For the #HurleyProSunsetBeach, WSL teamed up with Haleʻiwa-based non-profit and WSL PURE grantee Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation to restore native wetland ecosystems and learn about the benefits of composting on their Kōkua Learning Farm. Together we:
Planted native plants in the constructed wetlands on the farm, to improve water quality, reduce the risk of flooding, and provide habitats for endangered species.
Explored different composting techniques such as vermicomposting and discussed the connection between soil health and ocean health
Learned about the foundation's vision for a future on-site in-vessel composting machine supported by the @wslpure grant.
As surfers, the ocean is our playground and our stadium. Getting involved in protecting and conserving the ocean is critical for us today and for future generations. Tell us what you are doing to protect the ocean by posting on social media with the hashtag #WeAreOneOcean and tagging @wsl and @wslpure in your posts. You can learn more and get involved at WeAreOneOcean.org.
We Are One Ocean is supported by global partners SHISEIDO and YETI and regional partners Mananalu and The Hawaiian Islands.
