The Western Australia Margaret River Pro is kicking off with promising surf. Day 1, Saturday May 17, is looking solid with a medium-sized southwest swell and favorable morning winds, setting up a great start to the event window. Leading into the weekend, Thursday and Friday (May 15-16) will feature a building southwest swell that offers ideal warm-up conditions for competitors. On Saturday, overhead surf is expected with offshore winds in the morning before shifting to light to moderate cross-shore in the afternoon. Sunday will see fading swell and stronger cross to onshore winds, leading to lower quality conditions. Monday should bring a gradual increase in surf, though onshore winds could limit overall quality. The best potential arrives Tuesday through Thursday (May 20-22), with back-to-back southwest swells delivering solid size. There's a chance the swell for the 21st and 22nd could push into the low-end XL range, with wind conditions currently looking favorable in the mornings. We'll be closely monitoring storm activity and local winds, so stay tuned to Surfline for updated forecasts throughout the event window.
