The Punta Galea Challenge is one of six stops on the 2014/2015 ASP Big Wave World Tour (BWWT) with surfers competing in waves 30-feet and above. A significant storm system in the North Atlantic is moving toward Spain's Basque Region. The Punta Galea Challenge is expected to run on Thursday, December 11, in waves 40 feet and above. The second contest to run in the 2014/2015 BWWT season, Punta Galea is also expected to produce a number of entries for the Billabong XXL Awards, which will take place in May of 2015.
The Billabong Pipe Masters is the final stop on the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) and will decide a historic World Title between 20-year-old phenom Gabriel Medina (BRA), reigning tree-time ASP World Champion Mick Fanning (AUS) and 11-time ASP World Champion and sporting icon Kelly Slater (USA).
