The Scoot Burleigh Pro presented by Vissla, a new event on the World Surf League calendar, will get underway Friday and will see a selection of the world's best surfers fight for Qualifying Series (QS) points at one of the world's most iconic waves. This year's event has a QS1000 rating and will host both men's and women's divisions.

Professional surfing sisters Ellie-Jean Coffey and Holly-Sue Coffey (AUS) are making a solid assault on this year's QS with eyes set on qualifying for the WSL Championship Tour (CT). The Scoot Burleigh Pro will be an ideal opportunity to gain points and confidence for the remainder of the 2015 season.

“I'm feeling really good and confident — I have told so many people that now I've really got to back this up,” said Ellie-Jean. “I grew up surfing at Crescent Head and now I live at Snapper so I'm glad to have an event at Burleigh Heads because I'm comfortable on right hand points. I'm really excited to do an event in good waves because it comes down to your surfing more than strategy. This year is all about competing for me so I'm excited for the event to start.”

“We had a problem getting our event entry in so we were worried we'd miss out on this event!” Holly-Sue said. “But thankfully Surfing Queensland and WSL gave Ellie-Jean and I wildcards. It's great to have an event at this break, I love righthand pointbreaks. I usually surf at Snapper, but every time I surf here I love it and realize I need to make my way up here more often.”

Former CT surfer and last year's No. 32 on the QS Nathan Hedge was on hand at the Scoot Burleigh Pro press launch Thursday and was eager to express how excited he is to be able to surf Burleigh Heads with only a couple of other surfers in the water. Hedge will also be mounting a solid QS campaign this year.

“I love competing at Burleigh!,” Hedge said. “It's such an iconic surf spot, it's got a great history and the wave quality is really high. You hear a lot of tennis players talk about match fitness and that's why I'm here — we use these QS1000 event to springboard into the bigger events fit, fired up and ready to go.”
