Reigning World Surf League (WSL) North America Junior Champion Parker Coffin has withdrawn from the Oakley Lowers Pro due to an ankle injury he suffered in Hawaii in March.

"My original thought was that I was going to be able to come back for Trestles, but ankle injuries are definitely fickle injuries," explains Coffin. "I felt like I would be surfing at 50 percent, when being a wildcard spot you need to over-perform what you normally would. I'm just at home making sure my ankle is a 150 percent before I start surfing again. I don't want it to be a prolonged injury throughout my career. I want to take the extra time and effort to make sure it's just better."

Coffin was one of two WSL North America wildcards selected to join the list of 96 vying for the $250,000 prize purse and 10,000-point rankings boost. The remaining wildcard, Evan Geiselman, will now be joined by Luke Davis, currently No. 40 on the QS International rankings.

The Oakley Lowers Pro is the first of nine QS10000 events -- formerly known as "Prime" events -- on the 2015 WSL Qualifying Series (QS). As the highest rated of all of the QS events, the event at Trestles will set the stage for early 2016 Championship Tour qualification campaigns that will ultimately be determined at the end of the year in Hawaii.
