Dawn Patrol Report: Down Day in Portugal

Amid stormy conditions, Deputy Commissioner Travis Logie called a lay day for the MEO Rip Curl Pro.

"As you can see, it's not a glorious day," said Logie, as rain pelted him and white caps formed in the background. "So we're off for the day. There's strong winds now and rain and the size is going to be [huge] by this afternoon. So, it's sketchy.

"There's a possibility of moving back to Supertubes," he continued. "It's going to be way too big for this bank tomorrow. Even Tuesday looks like a good window for Supertubes."

There's a lot riding on the rest of the contest in Peniche. For surfers like Miguel Pupo, who's been on a tear here, continued success through the Quarterfinals would further boost him up the rankings, and into a safer spot to requalify for 2017. For John Florence, just two heats stand between him and a potential date with destiny: The Hawaiian could win a World Title before the contest is over.

Tune in Monday at 8:00 a.m. local time for the next call and a possible finals day in Portugal.
