LOS ANGELES, Calif., USA (Wednesday, February 28, 2024) - The World Surf League (WSL), the global home of competitive surfing, is thrilled to announce its continued and expanded partnership with SHISEIDO for the 2024 season.

As part of the multifaceted partnership, SHISEIDO will continue as WSL's Global Sustainability Partner for the second year as well as the Official Suncare of WSL North America, while growing the partnership to include the Global Official Suncare of the WSL, Official Partner of the WSL Championship Tour (CT), and Title sponsor for CT Stop No. 6, the SHISEIDO Tahiti Pro, scheduled for May 22 - 31, 2024.

"We've been partners with SHISEIDO since 2019, and we're particularly proud of our sustainability work together as part of WSL One Ocean and SHISEIDO Blue Project, including the award-winning content series we produced together," said Cherie Cohen, WSL Chief Revenue Officer. "Having a global partner like SHISEIDO that's as invested as we are in ocean sustainability makes this partnership something special, and there's a lot more to come in 2024, which is set to be a transformative year for the sport."

SHISEIDO will host on-site activations at select CT events through the season, including sunscreen and suncare stations where fans can sample and purchase products, in addition to SHISEIDO make up / makeover corners where fans and talent can try out SHISEIDO's extensive line of cosmetic products to ensure everyone is looking their best on the beach.

SHISEIDO Continues Global Sustainability Partnership

SHISEIDO will continue as the Global Sustainability Partner of the WSL with the goal of inspiring audiences to take action towards ocean conservation via WSL One Ocean local impact projects at CT stops this season. Over the 2023 Championship Tour (CT) season, WSL One Ocean partnered with local communities, Indigenous and First Nations peoples, surfers, and a coalition of over 100 organizations to host over 16 local impact projects and activations, which focused on protecting and conserving our global ocean and its ecosystem.

This season the WSL delivered the following impact:

  • 45,374 hectares of land protected or restored, including the protection of surf ecosystems in Hawaii, Australia, and Brazil and long-term reforestation projects in Uruguay through WSL's carbon offset portfolio
  • 100,000 corals planted through efforts with Coral Gardeners
  • 2 tons of plastic removed through river intervention projects in Latin America
  • 1,635 volunteers engaged across all WSL One Ocean activations
  • 3,041 youth educated on cultural and environmental stewardship

In addition, WSL One Ocean received six awards in sports sustainability, including the prestigious Leaders In Sport Sustainability Category Award and the Green Sports Alliance Waste Champion Award.

For this season, the project at Stop No. 3 on the WSL CT, the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal, will feature SHISEIDO partners and influencers joining forces with WSL One Ocean and Peniche Ocean Watch to process discarded fishing nets, which are harmful to our ocean. WSL and SHISEIDO will also work together to produce in-broadcast vignettes to promote sustainability throughout the season.
