THE LOCATION: The beautiful Cascais, originally a fishing village turned prime vacation area just outside of Portugal's capital Lisbon, forms part of the Estoril coastline and is host to some of the best waves in the country. With a little over 200,000 inhabitants, the city meets the ocean and the vibe is relaxed.

THE HISTORY: The Cascais Billabong Pro has become one of the central European events of the Summer, with the highest Qualifying Series rankings points on offer and a whopping $250,000 prize purse up for grabs. The third installment of the Cascais meet promises another exciting week of action both in and out of the water.

THE WAVE: The primary venue of Carcavelos is a punchy beachbreak forming close to shore A-frame peaks and often barrels. Its orientation facing South makes it sometimes difficult to catch the main swells from the West / North-West.

If Carcavelos isn't doing its thing, the Cascais Billabong Pro has the option to move to Guincho, a back-up break some 20-minutes further West. Guincho is an exposed beach that capitalizes on every bit of swell on offer and delivers big open-water like waves and can handle size.
