Soöruz Lacanau Pro to Launch European Summer
WSL
The World Surf League is pleased to announce that the 2015 Soöruz Lacanau Pro and Pro Juniors are confirmed on the summer calendar. A combined men and women's Junior Qualifying Series (JQS) 1,000 and men's Qualifying Series (QS) 3,000, the Lacanau Pro is the longest standing European event on the professional surfing calendar.
"This year the Soöruz Lacanau Pro is back and exciting as ever," Cyril Camu, COLP president stated. "With Gabriel Medina and Filipe Toledo part of a prestigious list of past winners list, the French Pro is known as a champion springboard and looks forward to the birth of a new star. For 2015, the novelty is the return of the women's Pro Junior. Ladies, you're welcome back on Lacanau's sandbanks. We'll see you from August 14-23 for the 36th edition of the Lacanau Pro!"
Lacanau will see the return to competition of Europe's most talented athletes after the season opener in Martinique last April. Launching a summer leg of events across the Old Continent, the Soöruz Lacanau Pro will be one of five counting in the regional title race.
The men and women's Junior divisions will be Stop No. 4 of 5 on the European JQS and represent an important opportunity to climb up the ranks before the final event in the Canary Islands. Junior surfers will also enjoy the chance to perform in front of capacity crowds on the central beach of Lacanau in the height of the French summer.
"The Lacanau Pro returns again to establish itself as the first QS of our six-event summer/autumn leg of QS events, so its importance is of great value for surfers chasing the 3,000 points up for grabs for their qualification campaigns in 2015," Rob Gunning, WSL Europe tour manager added.
