After a successful first edition in 2015, the Martinique Surf Pro, a men's QS3,000 event, will return this season to the idyllic French West Indies island of Martinique from April 17-24, 2016.
The epic first installment unfolded last year in quality surf and brought surfers from all corners of the world. Ultimately, Hawaiian up-and-comer Joshua Moniz (HAW), 19, won the event.

"I'm for sure heading back to Martinique after last year," Moniz said recently. "I couldn't believe how fun the waves were in that event, it was actually the best waves I surfed all year on the QS.
"Honestly, with how hard these QS events are I'm not thinking of defending my title. I'm more focused on just taking it a heat at a time and giving it my 100 percent without giving up. And at the end of the event if I end up winning again, I will be super stoked."

The Martinique Surf Pro carries huge value for international QS surfers, as the first half of the WSL schedule features mostly smaller events, and the 3,000 ranking points on offer are a boost up the rankings, closer to Championship Tour qualification.

A good result in the early season means surfers get their shot at the major events of the back-end of the year, and competition will be fierce once again in Martinique. Co-sanctioned by the European and North American WSL offices, surfers will also count on this event's result to climb their regional ladder towards the coveted European and North American titles.
The venue: Basse-Pointe is a medium to long righthand point break, with the wave breaking over large boulders to offer multiple sections of fun, punchy walls, ideal to display all elements of modern professional surfing.

While the inaugural edition attracted a reasonable field of 112 surfers, the quality of the wave, event infrastructures and the extremely positive feedback the event generated amongst both surfers and the public, this year's Martinique Surf Pro will undoubtedly welcome a larger field of hungry QS competitors eager to experience the Caribbean vibe and fight it out in tropical waters.
