The European contingent heads to Santa Cruz, Portugal for Stop N°5 of the regional Qualifying Series.
The inaugural Santa Cruz Pro, stop N°5 on the 2016 European Qualifying Series, will bring some of the continent's best surfers to Portugal this week for an intense five days of high-performance surfing.
With four events already in the books, Santa Cruz comes as the midway point in the region's Qualifying Series title race and while some surfers have already banked good results in the first half of the season, an invaluable stack of points are still up for grabs.
Current European N°4, and recent runner-up of the Pro A Coruña, Jorgann Couzinet (REU), 22, will lead the field into this week's action and look to build on his season tally while some of the surfers ahead of him are absent, competing at the upcoming Vans US Open of Surfing in California.
"Since the event in A Coruña I've come home and trained intensely on mental strength, overall fitness and surf technique with video analysis, so I feel like I have even further improved and am ready for this event," he said. "I've kept all the boards that worked so well and am really excited to put a jersey back on and battle for hopefully another final and maybe finally a win!"
The venue: Praia de Fisica is one of many golden sand beaches in Santa Cruz, set amongst large natural cliffs and boulders. Bars and restaurants have set up camp along the beach to soak in the incredible sunset views over the Atlantic. An increasingly popular seaside resort in central Portugal, Santa Cruz has everything you can think of to spend quality time, from water sports to cultural visits, great food and more.
