The East Coast leg continues from the 1st Street Jetty of Virginia Beach to the shores of Nags Head, NC for the WRV Outer Banks Pro QS1,000 presented by Pacifico. With a likely start tomorrow at Jeannette's Pier, competitors have arrived and are set for a building forecast throughout the next few days. Event organizers and competitors alike are excited for the third installment of this contest's history -- a lineup that has a consistent wave and terrific atmosphere.
Coming in as the No. 1 seeded surfer of the event, Kilian Garland looks forward to a great competition unfolding this week. The Santa Barbara, Calif., native is seeking a big result on the East Coast to boost his North America QS points within the region and earn a spot into the main events next year.
"I'm really stoked for this one, it's always really fun and looks like we'll have some swell so it should be another good year," Garland said. "It's really important being in the North America region and with not having too many big events it's crucial to do well in the QS3,000s and these QS1,000s -- it's just great to compete anywhere in America and get some points stacked up. A lot of the waves are similar to what we grew up surfing amateur events so it's always a plus to have the experience. The tranquility of the place is great, it's super mellow and really beautiful here."

After his brilliant wildcard performance eliminating No. 6 ranked Bino Lopes at the Vans Pro Men's QS3,000 last week, Matt Passaquindici couldn't find that continued form and now looks to make a run of his own as a top seed in the WRV Outer Banks Pro. Passaquindici is in his comfort zone amid the lineup of Jeannette's Pier and will need to take advantage of it.
"I was disappointed in my performance at Virginia Beach because I love competing over here on the East Coast so I'll really be looking to get a great result in Outer Banks," Passaquindici said. "I pull things from certain heats and certain events but I feel like I'm always improving so I'd really like to get into those two-man heats since I haven't cracked those yet. I think I've always found better results in bigger waves which is funny since I've always thought I'd do better in smaller waves, but the break at Jeanette's suits my surfing and looking forward to it."

WRV Operations Manager and returning Event Director LG Shaw and his team have been working relentlessly to bring this contest back to life. All their work payed off and prepping for the first horn tomorrow was no easy task, but Shaw knows the importance of keeping events running for these competitors.
"We are so excited to get this event started and it's really a testament to how invested our team is in this event," Shaw said. "When these contests go away for even a year it's not good for anyone involved and we want to keep coming back here year in and year out. We know the surfers always enjoy the atmosphere and wave that Outer Banks presents to them -- and that's what all this is for, we want to provide surfers a chance to keep competing."
