2015 Pe'ahi Challenge Champ Billy Kemper displayed his local dominance in Round One, scratching his way into some of the meanest waves of the morning. He scored big going both directions at Jaws, but really applied the pressure when he knifed into a steep right-hander, earning a 6.60. South African Grant Baker also advanced into the Semis thanks to a critical barrel attempt, while fellow Maui local Kai Lenny took a more progressive approach, wowing the judges with committed carves on an oversized Pe'ahi canvas.
