The World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) is about to head to South Sumatra in Indonesia, one of the most picturesque locations on the calendar for the 2018 Krui Pro. In its second year as a WSL event, the Krui Pro is continuing to grow with it being upgraded to a QS1,500 meaning more points and prize money on offer for competitors.

The event will see some of the world's best male and female surfers do battle at one of the most perfect long left-hand point breaks on the planet. In 2017, the Krui Pro QS1,000 was the first WSL event to take place in South Sumatra and WSL Asia Regional Manager Steve Robertson couldn't be happier to see the event return in 2018.

"WSL is thrilled to be returning to South Sumatra this April," Robertson said. "The waves at Krui are truly world-class and it is a pleasure for us to work with both the regional and national governments and the Asian Surf Cooperative to continue this great event. This will be the first of a number of WSL events to take place on Indonesian shores this year and is bound to be one of the most exciting."

Nyoman "Mega" Artana from Kuta, Bali was the highest place Indonesian surfer at last year's event. In 2018, the exciting goofy-footer was eliminated in the Semifinals by the event's eventual winner, but in 2018 is hoping to go all the way.

"I'm so excited to be going back for the Krui Pro this year, "Artana said. "I hope to this year make it to the final and win the whole event. Krui is such an amazing wave and it is so fun to surf in a competition, I can't wait to get back there - it's such a beautiful place."

The growth of the event is a testament to the continual development of WSL's relations in Indonesia, a sentiment held by Regent Agus Istiqlal of the West Coast Regency of South Sumatra.

"We are proud to again be welcoming the WSL professional men and women surfers back to Krui this year," Istiqlal said. "This year is sure to be an even bigger event with a QS1,500 rating for the men and more prize money for the women. I'm exciting to welcome these surfers, the media, and everybody else here to enjoy our great waves and beautiful Krui area. Please everybody, come and enjoy."

The 2018 Krui Pro QS1,500 will run from April 15 - 20.
