Saturday, June 16 is International Surfing Day (ISD) and this year, Airbnb and the World Surf League are celebrating by donating all service fees from those who book our partner surf experiences that day to the Surfrider Foundation. Surfrider, which is also a partner of WSL PURE, created ISD to promote some collective fun on coasts that the organization works to protect -- a worthy cause if there ever was one.
Inside just a few of the surf experiences you could be having, anytime, around the world.
This year's theme, Protect & Enjoy, neatly sums up the aim of the day: Protect what you love, and then go enjoy the hell out of it. As Surfrider explains, "This year, while we band together to share the stoke of surfing, we also aim to raise awareness of urgent threats to our precious coastline, like new offshore oil drilling." Surfers are arguably closest to both of these aims, not only enjoying the ocean and beaches as much as possible, but also seeing first-hand the impact of environmental hazards.
So while Saturday will be a worldwide party for the beach, surfing is a way of celebrating the sea, every day. With this in mind, we're wishing fans a very happy, very wave-rich, #ISD. See you in the lineup -- at home, or anywhere you choose, while giving back.
