Margaret River is a reef. Occasionally, the reef comes to greet the surfers in a less-than-delicate fashion.
Round 2 of the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro saw it's fair share of carnage. However, with points on the line, the surfers needed to make the most of any scoring opportunity that presented itself as ASP Head Judge Rich Porta outlines.
That said, it didn't make it any easier for Brazilian charger Raoni Monteiro, who lost a fin when he drove his Firewire board straight into the Main Break bricks.
Or even the likes of 11-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater whose Channel Islands was a little worse for wear after the iconic American took a closer look of the reef himself:
