While it may not be an official WSL contest, we're stoked nonetheless to see two Championship Tour surfers facing off in a jersey. Sally Fitzgibbons and Lakey Peterson have been running mock heats on Australia's South Coast, keeping the tools sharp for when competition resumes.
Both athletes were pumped to get together and get some heat experience after an extended, unplanned break from the Tour, with Lakey revealing she still feels a bit rusty, though we're sure she'll remain a serious threat, as ever, once the world's best athletes are vying for a World TItle once again.
Also, the two got to spend some time with legend of the sport Pam Burridge while Lakey was in Sally's neck of the woods, on the South Coast.
Lakey and Fitzgibbons could be described as two World Champions-in-waiting, both perennially in the upper echelons of the rankings, and with both having come tantalizingly close in the past (Lakey was in the race right up to the final event last year).
Sitting at numbers 3 and 5 in the world at the moment, we can't wait to see what these two elite athletes can do in the near future. Which other WSL athletes would you like to see mix it up with a friendly heat?
