The North Pacific has been providing this winter, and in Hawaii that means as steady stream of pumping surf on the North Shore. With the world's best still posted up along the Seven Mile Miracle and nothing to do but surf, the clips have been stacking. Everyone from World Champs to world-class freesurfers have been busy uploading their latest and greatest edits to YouTube. Over the last seven days, these are among the best of the best:
Italo Ferreira: Hawaii 2020 Part 5
Offering a behind-the-scenes look at how Italo Ferreira battled through the Pipe Masters. From insane conditions, painful injuries and rivalry matchups, the reigning World Champ also spends some time with Shane Dorian to breakdown some heat strategy. Italo's passion and fury are on full display here. Enjoy this ride-along with the people's champ as he rolls through all the ups of downs of the 2021 Pipe Masters.
Mason Ho: Searching For Oil
Mason Ho and Sheldon Paishon just took a break from the North Shore scene and dipped into some oil-glass conditions. Filmed by Rory Pringle, the boys score insanely sketch spitting tubes over exposed lava rock, which only reaffirms how much Mason relishes surfing over dry reef. Not afraid to sacrifice himself for the greater good, Mase's boards survived ding-free but he gets the tiger claws down his back after getting a little too up close and personal with the bottom.
Jamie O'Brien: Charging Perfect Pipeline With John John Florence and Italo Ferreira
The king of pysch, a.k.a. Mr. Pipe, a.k.a. Jamie O'Brien, takes us through his daily routine when Pipe is pumping. From the moment he wakes up, he shares the thought process he goes through when he makes his decisions on what craft he wants to ride a Catch Surf Soft Top or a Wade Tokoro Shortboard. He then paddles out at the 4:36 mark and gets some crazy ones along side Nathan Florence, two-time World Champ John John Florence, and 2019 World Champ Italo Ferreira.
Koa Rothman: Pipeline Goes Pscho With No One Out | What It's Like Paddling Out
If you live on the North Shore and surf Pipeline enough, eventually you're bound to luck into an uncrowded moment or two. Koa Rothman is all about these special little sessions as he scores pumping Pipe with only a few lucky souls out. And if you've ever wondered what it's like to fight through the walls of whitewater and paddle out the back, Koa offers up some pretty good insight into what it takes. On just about every swell at Pipe, this is a great insider's look at how things work at the Banzai.
Nathan Florence: Raw POV/Land Clips Unruly Pipeline Backdoor Session
Nate Florence knows how to put together a banger YouTube edit, and once again, he doesn't disappoint. Where his World Champ brother is somewhat averse to too much time in front of the camera, Nate's candor and openness give his audience a great perspective on what it's like to live on the beach at Pipe and charge like a mad dog when the ocean gets angry -- and he usually does it with a smile on his face and a sense of humor. Yes, surfing heavy Pipe and Backdoor is scary and dangerous, but as Nate reminds us, it can also be a hell of a lot of fun.
