The 2021 Port Stephens Pro presented by Mad Mex - stop two on the Vissla NSW Pro Surf Series - will see the return of professional surfing to Port Stephens tomorrow. The elite three-day World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) 1000 rated event will form the second of four stops on the Vissla NSW Pro Surf Series and will take place in Port Stephens from February 21 - 23.

After an amazing four days of competition at the Great Lakes Pro presented by Surfers Rescue 24/7 which was taken out by Reef Heazlewoodf and Molly Picklum, the NSW 'road trip' will head south the picturesque Birubi Beach. Competition is sure to be exciting as Australia and New Zealand's best continue to battle it out for all-important QS points.

Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden believes the Port Stephens area is perfectly suited for an event of this calibre.

"Over the years we have been extremely spoilt with awesome wave quality in the Port Stephens region and it's an absolute joy to return to the area after a turbulent year in 2020. I would like to thank the local surfing contingent and the other event stakeholders for welcoming us back in 2021."

Port Stephens Council Mayor Ryan Palmer is elated to see a professional event return to the region.

"It's fantastic to see surfing competitions return to Port Stephens - it's a very welcome boost after a challenging year for our community and local businesses in 2020. Our region has shared a healthy relationship with Surfing NSW over the years and we can't wait to work with them again when the Port Stephens Pro returns in 2021."

WSL APAC Tour Manager Will Hayden-Smith echoed Palmer's sentiments.

"Port Stephens and in particular Birubi Beach has become a staple on the WSL Qualifying Series over the last five years and we're really excited to be returning in 2021," said Hayden-Smith. "The area has plenty of options for all conditions making it ideal for a surfing event and our competitors love making the trip to the region each year. WSL would like to thank the Port Stephens Council and Surfing NSW for their continued support of the QS."

The local Bay Area Boardriders wildcard is Jasmine Sampson.
