The men's Pro Junior Quarterfinals fired into action with near-perfect Zippers conditions throughout their Quarterfinal matchups and massive performances followed. With Semifinalists set, a few of last year's standouts are looking to get back into the Final and earn their first-ever WSL wins.
Cole Houshmand - WSL / Andrew Nichols
One of those being Cole Houshmand who topped his performance from yesterday and posted the event's highest single-wave score of 9.93 and earned an incredible 18.60 heat total. Only Crosby Colapinto's performance came close to Houshmand's with an 8.87 and 8.30.
"That was just such a stacked heat with all San Clemente boys and Elijah [Fox] so I knew everyone was going to be ripping. It was one of the best heats I surfed in a long time, maybe ever, so I'm just stoked. I feel really comfortable out here after having so many heats in that lineup and that helps build confidence."
Eithan Osborne - WSL / Andrew Nichols
Last year's fourth-place finisher, Eithan Osborne, took to the air for a near-perfect 9.40 and an impressive heat total, 17.43. The Ventura, California, native felt right at home with the rippable wave of Zippers providing plenty of opportunity in his heat going to back and forth with Tyler Gunter. But, in the end it was Osborne who jumped out front with only two minutes remaining.
"There really wasn't much else to do with that wave so I just went for the air and I really wanted to land one so I was stoked," Osborne said. "I made a board change which helped a bit, this one just felt better on rail being a bit longer which helped out there. It's great to make it into another finals day here and I'm hoping to do even better than I did last year."
Ryland Rubens - WSL / Andrew Nichols
Ryland Rubens' continued to stamp his mark as the current No. 1 on the North America Junior Tour with a dominant performance. The San Diego, California, native blasted an 8.67 and 7.50 on his vicious backhand to secure a spot into the Semifinals -- overtaking yesterday's in-form Che Allan, who earned runner-up.
"Yesterday I didn't do that great so I just had to wake up, today's a new day and start over," Rubens said. "Luckily there's thirty-minute heats with the slower conditions so I wanted to catch waves and build some sort of a rhythm."

Shane Borland rounded off the Quarterfinal heat winners and is en route to his best-ever result on the Junior Tour. It was a hectic final minutes for Borland with time running out and in need of a score, but he now finds himself in his first finals day.
"It was crazy, I had last priority and there were only two minutes left and a few waves came that ended up giving me first priority before one last wave came through at the end," Borland said. "It was just this little left gem that came up and so stoked to make that heat."
Tomorrow's 7:30 a.m. call will determine a possible 8:00 a.m. MDT start for the Semifinals.
