Every year the Los Cabos Open of Surf never disappoints with an international field that embodies what's in store for the future of women's surfing -- and it's bright. Summer Macedo's back-to-back Finals appearance have locked her in as one of Zippers finest and, after her runner-up result last year, took a big win. It was a stacked final featuring some of the world's best up-and-coming talents including reigning World Junior Champion Macy Callaghan, former CT wildcard Caroline Marks, and current North America No. 1 Alyssa Spencer.

Macedo's campaign ended with a deserving win where she saved the best for last. The 16-year-old earned a near-perfect 9.93, matching the event's highest single-scoring wave, to claim her first Los Cabos title. One of Maui's top talents won't walk away with any points being out of region, but can take this confidence and a well-earned $2,500 for her dominating performance.
"To win the Pro Junior and test my abilities against some of the world's best juniors feels amazing," Macedo said. "In that heat Macy [Callaghan] started off really strong and I knew I needed the best wave out here. I wanted to stay in sync and find that one wave, there's been that one in every heat and I had to be on it. I love this wave and felt really in rhythm with it the whole event. Now I'll be back and forth between California and Maui to spend time at home while prepping for some amateur events and the Supergirl Pro."

After last year's international dominance and no big points earned aside from Meah Collins' fourth-place, Spencer claimed a massive runner-up result that pushes her even further out in front of the ratings. With only two events remaining, Spencer must find a result in either Huntington Beach or Barbados and a trip back to World Junior Championships is hers.
"This event was amazing to surf really fun waves and I'm really happy to make that Final with all those girls -- they were ripping this whole contest," Spencer said. "It feels really good to back up that win, but it's still a big year ahead and I know I'll have to surf my best in the next two events for a chance at Worlds which is where I want to be again. It'll be good to keep training and dialing in everything heading into the summer."

Reigning World Junior Champion, Callaghan, started off with a great wave of her own before the ocean didn't quite cooperate anymore and earned a solid third-place result. As it goes for Macedo, no points were earned here, but a chance to compete against her fellow up-and-coming competitors was one the Aussie took full advantage of -- along with her Qualifying Series (QS) efforts.
"I'm really happy with my surfing this week and just got unfortunate in that Final not to find another good wave," Callaghan said. "Coming her for the QS and trying to get another result there, it's always fun to do both events and surf against these girls. To see the level of surfing keep rising is so great and I'm looking forward to the rest of this year."

Marks' performance throughout the Los Cabos Open of Surf was one she can be proud of and took home fourth-place honors (along with 525 points to her name). The Floridian-turned-California transplant looked to be an event threat from the start with massive scores posted in each heat until the Final. But, with the Vans US Open up next, Marks will look to defend her title once more.
"It was such a fun contest and it wasn't quite the Final I was hoping to put together, but I'm pretty stoked with my Semifinal performance to look back on," Marks said. "I'm looking forward to this summer and a three-peat at Huntington would be epic. It's going to be hard work, but I'm just enjoying it all and having fun so I can't wait to get back in the jersey."
