The WA Pro Surf Series has been made possible thanks to a successful partnership between Surfing WA, WSL, City of Mandurah, Visit Mandurah, City of Busselton, and the Western Australian Government, through Tourism WA.

"The WA Pro Surf Series highlights the State's spectacular coastline, stunning beaches and fantastic surf conditions to out-of-state competitors and spectators," said WA Tourism Minister Paul Papalia. "Events like these are great for regional areas, they give people a reason to visit, create a sense of excitement, promote the destination and benefit the local economy. With the action taking place across both Mandurah and Yallingup, it is also a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore some of what the State has to offer with a road trip."

The first event of the series, the Mandurah Pro, will take place at one of WA's favorite holiday destinations. A place renowned for its amazing boating and water sport lifestyle, Mandurah offers some incredible options for surf regardless of the conditions, as seen at the inaugural event in 2018.

"It is fantastic to have the Western Australian Pro Surf Series returning to city shores with the Mandurah Pro," said Mandurah Mayor Rhys Williams. "This elite event is perfectly suited to Mandurah's beautiful beaches and awesome surf breaks and I am certainly proud to showcase our city to the local, interstate and international competitors and visitors alike. I wish the competitors luck and encourage everyone to get down to the beach and show their support."

The second event of the series, the Cape Naturaliste Pro, will see competitors head south from October 24 - 27 to the beautiful Busselton area. With its sparkling blue ocean in the protected Geographe Bay, white sandy beaches, lush forests and well maintained open spaces, the City of Busselton has developed a reputation as the place to come for events, cementing itself as the 'Events Capital WA'. Boasting a wide variety of events, from music, arts, and cultural events, community events and a range of sporting events to cater for all interests and fitness levels!  No matter what you're into, there's always something happening in the City of Busselton.

"The City of Busselton is once again proud to support the WSL Cape Naturaliste Pro and welcome back this world-class event to the iconic Yallingup region," said City of Busselton Mayor Grant Henley. "Yallingup recently topped ‘Australian Travellers' best town list and it is best known for its jagged coastline, soaring cliff faces, and giant waves. This event will again bring invaluable regional promotion to the area and boost to the local economy. I applaud Surfing WA for its efforts to bring this international event to WA."

The WA Pro Surf Series will reignite the race for the WSL Australia / Oceania Regional Qualifying Series with the winner of each season gaining a seed into the major QS events in the opening half of 2020. With only 3 events left on the calendar, the WA Pro Surf Series events will have massive implications in the career of an up and coming QS surfers.

"WSL is stoked to be heading back to WA this year," said WSL Australia / Oceania Tour Manager Will Hayden-Smith. "Last year's events were fantastic and this year should be no different. Each of these events will play a massive role in shaping the career of a young QS competitor. For example, last years Mandurah Pro winner Morgan Cibilic used that win to earn a spot in the 10,000 QS events this year and just notched an impressive finish at the US Open which put him into the top 100 in the QS. This opportunity would never have presented itself if he hadn't competed well in Western Australia last year. This will no doubt create a great incentive to QS surfers to head to WA this October."

It won't only be a great opportunity for traveling QS competitors as local WA surfers will be given the chance to take it to the best surfers in the Asia Pacific region.

"The WA Pro Surf Series will provide a much-needed stepping stone for West Australian surfers to compete in an internationally rated event on home soil," said Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks. "We look forward to welcoming surfers from across the planet to Western Australian and hope to showcase some of our great waves and amazing surfing locations."
