The flotilla is on its way out to Cloudbreak for the kickoff of the Outerknown Fiji Women's Pro this morning in Fiji. After two days of total flatness on Tavarua a fresh little pulse of swell started show signs of life at Cloudbreak on Monday afternoon. As darkness fell officials went to bed hoping the modest swell would fill in overnight, making competition possible on Tuesday and Wednesday.
With mid-range swell expected the women will be pushing to unleash their big moves in the playful stuff. Rookie Bronte Macaulay is prepping for a high-performance showdown. - WSL / Peter Joli
Surfline's updated forecast is calling for "a small, shadowed SW swell will pick up slowly through Tuesday, hold Wednesday and ease Thursday. Smaller leftovers are expected for Friday. Light to moderate ESE trades prevail each of the next couple morning, trending moderate to breezy SSE/S in the afternoon."
What's clear is this year's event will be a high performance affair for the women. With no huge swells on the horizon, Cloudbreak will be treated more as a left pointbreak than a hollow reef, so it's not a bad idea to reassess your fantasy team accordingly.
One of the most anticipated matches of the morning will be the Round One battle among current Jeep co-leader Tyler Wright, along with Tatiana Weston-Webb, and wildcard Bethany Hamilton in Heat 3.
The broadcast will start at 8:00 a.m. FJT. Tune in to watch.
