nib Pro Junior Descends on Merewether Beach

Almost 100 of Australia's and the world's most talented junior surfers have arrived in Newcastle ahead of this weekends nib Pro Junior World Surf League JQS event. Competitors will all vying for a top spot on the WSL Australia / Oceania JQS Rankings and a start at the 2018 World Junior Championships
The event will kick off the annual Newcastle Surfest festivities set to take place at the iconic Merewether Beach over the coming weeks. Surfest contest director Dave Kilby is confident that Newcastle's premiere surf beach will provide the goods for some of the world's best 18-and-under surfers this weekend.
"We are looking forward to good but small and testing surf conditions on Merewether beach this weekend," Kilby said. "The nib Pro Junior has attracted some of the best Australian and international surfers currently competing on the WSL Junior Qualifying Series. We expect to see these surfers compete at very high level over the weekend."
One competitor to watch will be local Elle Clayton-Brown who is currently sitting in eaqual 7th on the WSL Australia / Oceania JQS rankings. Clayton-Brown will be hoping for another strong showing when the world's best hit the surf in her backyard.
I'm feeling very excited for the start of the nib pro junior, (Clayton-Brown said. "It's just going be exciting to go up against some of the best juniors in Australia and the world so close to home so I'm so psyched and hope I perform well."
