This week the ISA announced the list of competitors for the Surfing and Stand-Up Paddle divisions of the 2019 Pan American Games. For the men and women that will compete in Peru this summer, it is not only an opportunity to represent their countries, but there are also two positions up for grabs for the 2020 Olympic Games.
The Surf division will feature 16 men and 16 women from North and South America. The winner of each division will qualify for a place in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
"I am looking forward to seeing the best athletes of the Americas, from Argentina to Canada, uniting in competition, giving us a preview of the amazing competition that we are to see next year at Tokyo 2020," ISA President Fernando Aguerre said in a press release.

The list features a number of seasoned WSL competitors, including Canada's Cody Young (originally from Maui), who just won the Sunset Open, finished 5th at the Volcom Pipe Pro and was a Semifinalist at the the 2017 WSL World Junior Championships and Bethany Zelasko, who finished 5th Pismo Beach Open in 2018.
The United States will be represented by Kevin Schulz, who won the 2018 Jack's Surfboards Pro, and Summer Macedo, who posted numerous victories during her junior career. Surfing for Puerto Rico will be Women's QS warrior Tia Blanco.
Argentina's Santiago Muniz, the 2018 World Surfing Games Gold Medalist, will go in as the number one seeds.

The 2019 Pan Am Games take place in Lima, Peru, from July 26 - August 11.
