Señoritas Open Pro 2025: ¿cómo funciona la competencia en el circuito WSL?

COMPETENCIA CLAVE. El Señoritas Open Pro es un torneo internacional de la World Surf League o Liga Mundial de Surf. ¿Qué papel cumple en el escenario mundial? Aquí vamos.
La WSL (World Surf League) es la organización que regula los principales campeonatos de surf a nivel mundial, como las competencias de tabla corta, longboard y olas grandes. Cada año, un aproximado de 1000 surfistas, hombres y mujeres, participan en estos torneos en diferentes playas del mundo.
Uno de ellos es el Señoritas Open Pro, que tiene dos categorías de tabla corta: Open Pro QS 1000 y Pro Juniors.
LA CATEGORÍA OPEN QS: el Qualifying Series es el circuito regional de la WSL y se celebra en Sudamérica, Norteamérica, Europa, Asia, África, Australia/Oceanía y en Hawái/Tahiti Nui, casi en paralelo. Los surfistas compiten únicamente en su región, en una serie de torneos en distintos países, que les permite ir acumulando puntos para subir en el ranking regional de la WSL. Hay QS de 1000 a 5000 puntos, los cuales son otorgados al primer lugar. El Señoritas Open Pro es un QS de mil puntos y a nivel regional, es el penúltimo evento de la temporada 2024-2025.
¿A dónde nos lleva todo esto?, al siguiente nivel: el Challenger Series, en el que se enfrentan los surfistas más rankeados de todas las regiones; en el caso de Sudamérica, pasan 7 hombres y 3 mujeres. En total, en el CS compiten 80 hombres y 48 mujeres para alcanzar finalmente el Championship Tour (CT), la máxima élite del surf mundial. Solo por poner un ejemplo, Sofía Mulánovich ha sido la única surfista peruana en llegar y campeonar en un CT el 2004, en tabla corta. ¿Y cómo va el ranking a este momento? A continuación, conoce los primeros lugares del ranking regional de Sudamérica a la fecha, en las ramas femenina y masculina:
Peruanos, brasileros y argentinos dominan la escena regional Sudamericana. Y por citar algunos nombres, en los primeros lugares del ranking femenino figuran las peruanas Arena Rodríguez (en segunda posición); la tres veces campeona sudamericana Daniella Rosas; y la atleta olímpica y campeona sudamericana de la temporada 2022/2023, Sol Aguirre. Y por el lado de los hombres, Alonso Correa es uno de los peruanos más cerca a la zona de clasificación.
LA CATEGORÍA PRO JUNIORS: aquí están los surfistas más jóvenes, entre los 12 y 20 años de edad. Ellos compiten en sus respectivas regiones por un lugar en el prestigioso Campeonato Mundial Juvenil de la WSL. El Señoritas Open Pro es la primera fecha de la temporada 2025.
Cabe destacar que Arena Rodríguez, obtuvo el año pasado el tercer lugar en el mundial junior.
Sin duda, el Señoritas Open Pro trae lo mejor del surf internacional al Perú; una gran oportunidad para disfrutar de un campeonato de alto nivel en casa.
